Act-Labs Force RS Drivers for Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10

The Act-Labs Force RS is still a great wheel but Act-Labs no longer sells it and only supports it by selling a few spare parts. The last official driver made was for Windows XP and does not work in Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 10. Apparently the cost of updating these drivers is too great for them to release a new official version. Fortunately there is a solution to running it on these operating systems. The Act-Labs Force RS driver was either made by or based on a communication interface by Immersion Corporation . The Saitek R440, a racing wheel made by Saitek, uses the same or nearly the same interface and has 32-bit and 64-bit drivers that work in Window Vista/7/8/10. Thanks to some work by a few people who still use the wheel, the Saitek driver has been adapted to work with the Force RS in all of the latest Windows operating systems.

JeffInTheUSA Drivers

JeffInTheUSA figured all this out and created the files needed to make this work along with easy instructions to follow. The latest version is 1.5 and incorporates a fix by Blueshift that solves an issue recognizing some versions of the wheel, including mine. I tested it and it works with full force feedback in iRacing and GPL under Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit for me. I’m also able to run the Performance Pedals as a separate USB device and the shifter connected to the wheel. I recommend following the instructions before trying this though as results vary.

GitHub — Click the Clone or download button and choose Download ZIP on the GitHub page to download all files required. Post any questions or problems there or by e-mailing Jeff using the address provided in the instructions.

KnightRacer1K Drivers

KnightRacer1K also created a set of drivers based on an earlier version of Jeff’s drivers. These drivers did not work for my version of the wheel but they are provided here as an alternate to try if you have trouble with Jeff’s drivers.

Act labs force rs drivers windows 7

I have recently upgraded my system to Windows 7. Some time ago I purchased an Act Labs Force RS Wheel, shifter and pedal system, investing in one of the greatest wheels known to my world of video games.

In an attempt to find drivers for the Force RS, I have noticed that Act Labs no longer supports this product, lacking any driver support for Windows 7. I was wondering if anyone had any experience attempting to use the Force RS wheel with Windows 7.

Currently, both the pedals and the shifter work flawlessly. The old Act Labs drivers for XP appear to install on Windows 7, however, the Force RS will not show under the ‘Game Devices’ panel.

Any thoughts on how to revive this awesome gaming system?

Do they have Vista drivers? Should work on those..

As Windows 7 is not actually out yet you can’t ‘expect’ people to have drivers ready for them as of yet.

I have attempted to contact Act Labs directly without success. It does not appear that Act Labs will make drivers for them.

At the moment, I have an install of both Vista and Windows 7. Neither operating system seems to operate with the XP Drivers, supplied from Act Labs.

The only other choice I have would be to use XP instead.

Just wanted to quickly post here to help anyone looking for new drivers. I’ve found a Vista and Windows 7 driver for the Act Labs Force RS steering wheel. You can download the driver here:
Click Here to download the Act . sta Windows 7 Driver v2.0

Download the zip, extract it to a folder called ‘ForceRS’ and follow the Instruction text file included.

The Force RS is a great wheel and very well built. Mine is still working fine after 10+ years! It would have been a shame to not be able to use the wheel anymore because of a driver problem. But with this fix you can still use the Force RS on the latest operating systems!

Thanks to JeffInTheUSA. I added Windows 7 support and simplified the fix even more.

I’ve updated these drivers to v3.0 (as to not confuse them with the original ActLabs v2.51). I’ve added and fixed support for Windows 64-bit. The Act Labs Force RS wheel is now working with both Windows 7 and Vista (32 and 64-Bit)! Now there are two separate packages, one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit.

I’m now using my modified Force RS on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I love the wheel but I found the pedals just don’t have enough throw.. So I modded my brothers old Logitech G25 pedals to work with my Force RS. Works great!

Just unzip to a folder called ‘ForceRS’ and there is an instruction text file with complete instructions. I haven’t been able to test this new version on many different versions of Windows 7 or Vista, but they should work if you follow the directions exactly. Please let me know if you find any bugs or typos or if you have any questions. Thanks and enjoy!

I followed your instructions perfectly, yet my wheel still does not respond.
I have under device manager «Act-Labs Force RS Wheel (USB) — Saitek Driver»

I have also tried to manually install «ForceRS_x64Rev2.inf» and «ForceRS_x64Rev3.inf», but it says.

«Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

Act-Labs Force RS Wheel (USB) — Saitek Win7

The system cannot find the file specified»

Is there something I am doing wrong? Can you help me?

Thanks! I also really like the wheel, I have a couple of them and don’t want to buy a new one. I will go back to windows XP before I use another wheel.

ACT LABS Force RS steering wheel does not work with Windows 7 or Vista

slidejob

EDIT UPDATE — I’ve gotten the wheel working with Windows 7 and Vista! See below.

Hi all, I’ve been doing some research into getting the ACT LABS Force RS steering wheel to work with Windows 7 and Vista. It’s weird, when you connect it, it installs the driver, and then you can see an icon for it in ‘Devices and Printers’ under Control Panel, but when you right click on it and go to ‘Game Controller Settings’, nothing shows up in that box. Hence you can’t test it or anything.

I’m trying to get the wheel to work in rFactor, but it does nothing, no response at all in rFactor’s controller config. I’ve heard of the wheel working in GPL but supposedly that game has it’s own controller driver code.

But, I saw a link from an ebay auction talking about some hacked drivers for this wheel. Unfortunately the link was to RaceSimCentral.com forums, which have crashed.. Does ANYONE have any information about these hacked drivers or info about using the Force RS wheel on Windows 7 or Vista in general? This is such a great wheel, mine is about 10 years old and still going strong. I’ve done minor maintenance, but this wheel is easy to work on. It’s just a shame that something stupid like no new OS driver support would kill it (when so many other BIG BUSINESS companies would continue support but their product is such junk that it falls apart first).

If anyone knows anything about these supposed HACKED drivers for this wheel, or any info on installing it on Windows 7 or Vista, your input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

ACT LABS Force RS wheel under Windows 7 Vista

This topic is locked from further discussion.

Is there any place now these drivers can be downloaded?

Or could any of you email them to me?

The original drivers worked fine on Windows XP 32, but I have now the x64 version. Another OS to test.

I had the same problem and had been borrowing my friends Momo while I had a perfectly good wheel staring at me but unusable. Fortunately I found the hacked drivers. I went through the instructions in the included pdf and didn’t have any issues. My Force RS is back up and functioning in Vista 32-bit. I’ve only tested it in iRacing so far.
